Koi Pond

Koi Pond came about it’s name due to the shape of the Chamise burl slabs that I used for the piece. They reminded me of a Koi from a bird’s eye view, top down. When I saw these pieces, I saw fish swimming around each other and that image shaped the sense of the work.

14 layers of eco-resin, each with varied coloring techniques build depth and movement in this piece, filling the space between the 2” thick Chamise burl sections. That’s a lot of room to create detail and nuance in the interplay from one layer to the next as I vary opacity and transparency techniques.

(37” x 23” x 2.5”) - Sold

Color and transparency are built up through more than 10 layers to achieve incredible depth and movement around the Burl in an attempt to capture the life and vibrancy of light through moving water.
