Silver Maple Series:
This slab was a bit of a siren song for me. I was on the hunt for some Elm for a project in process, and went to my go to Urban Wood source, in Anaheim, Ca. I did find the Elm, but it took me a while because there were these incredible slabs that kept catching my eye. My imagination sparked to life every time I let my gaze linger over all the character and nuance in these pieces of wood. I felt images developing in my imagination that fuel the creative drives. I really wanted to see what I could do with this slab that would otherwise have become firewood or ended up in a landfill were it not for the urban wood movement. What new life I could bring to it, what homage to it’s nature and beauty? I did drive away that day thinking about it all the while. Two days later I was loading it up to bring it home, set it on the wall across from me and continue my musings until the day in the not so distant future that I’d be ready to make that first cut.
